Calderdale Vs Kirklees

Saturday 6th January at the Piece Hall in Halifax, 14 players met over a chess board OUTSIDE the Wine Barrel to engage in battle. Calderdale was Captained by Dave Colledge and Kirklees by myself. A quick check on Yorkshire Chess History shows this is probably the first time a Kirklees Chess team has ever been formed, with previous incarnations under the Huddersfield and District Chess Association banner.

It was chilly but the outdoor heaters helped. Kirklees won 4-3 in the end, with victories from myself, Hamid, Brendan and Tony. The Wine Barrel are also keen to host more events, so hopefully we can get more fixtures there. It certainly garnered a lot of interest from the nearby shoppers, several who want to join or have their kids play. Pictures below.
